The Volunteer Services Organization (VSO), in association with Sports Council, Manipal University organized “Kidathon”, a ‘walk-a-thon’ event held for children between the ages of two and ten at Marena sports stadium in Manipal on September 24. This event kickstarted the 2017 edition of  Daan Utsav, a yearly festival celebrated from October 2nd-8th to promote the ‘joy of giving’.

“I’m really very happy to flag off the Kid-a-thon event. I feel it is important to create health-awareness among children and also their parents.” said Dr. H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, Manipal University as he flagged off the event. || Photograph Courtesy: Divayansh Bargotra

Despite being an unusually hot Sunday morning, the event gathered large crowds of enthusiastic and excited children, who found the event a nice recreational break.

A session of dance and exercise entertained the children as they moved to popular songs such as “Gangnam Style”.

The children were also presented with a souvenir t-shirt commemorating the event as a token of appreciation for their participation in the event. || Photograph Courtesy: Divayansh Bargotra

The event was drawn a close with the volunteers from VSO joining the children as they danced away to “Despacito”. || Photograph Courtesy: Divayansh Bargotra

The members of the VSO also announced that this year they target to organize 100 events to celebrate Daan Utsav, building upon the previous year’s 56.
