Security tightens at MU campus
Manipal: In a bid to tighten security, two patrol vans Eagle 1 and Eagle 2 will be found patrolling within the Manipal University campus twenty four hours a day. After a slight delay, the plan was inaugurated by Gopal B Hosur, DIG Western Range and executed on 1st April.
The vans will be patrolling divisions of the campus with one each near Manipal Institute of Technology and Kasturba Medical College. Discreet checkpoints will be placed all over the campus for these vans, and a swipe of their cards will be required to confirm their presence in that area at a particular time. This is the first time that the security at Manipal has been collaborated with the police force of Udupi. “This is mainly to mobilize forces faster if the need ever arises, and considering it is going to get stricter with day –and-night surveillance, I am sure many of us will sleep a lot more comfortably in our beds”, said Alexander Chandy, Director, PR and Media Communication, Manipal University. Each car will have an armed policeman and three persons from MU security including a driver. They will be equipped with ammunition, walkie talkies, wireless police sets, first aid kits, fire fighting equipment etc.
These vans are restricted within the MU campus, and will not be patrolling outside it. “This is not a disciplinary action against students. You are all expected to know your limits. But where conduct finishes, security starts. This measure has been taken to prevent the University from appearing as a soft target." said Col P S Muthanna, Chief Security Officer, MU.

The MIT hostels which boasts of the largest hostel in Asia couldn't protect one innocent guy from getting beaten up in the hostel for standing upto the truth. All the caretakers and staff were mute spectators to the incident. The caretakers were looking like some baby lambs in front of those guys.
I don't think these eagles and vultures are going to make any difference to the security situation. Anyhow, the Eagle riders are busy sipping tea at press cart every evening for close to an hour.
What really needs to be done is to give more teeth to the Doberman security guards and the caretakers of the hostels. One of the top MIT officials during a talk with me even confessed that strict instructions have been given to MIT hostel staff to never raise their hands on any student under any condition.
I am not asking the staff to go around beating the miscreants. But please at least don't stand as mute spectators when a simple innocent guy is getting beaten up by 20 guys in the hostel.
I pity the next batches that might come to this place. They talk about "people sleeping more comfortably in their beds".. Well I couldn't enter my block one night bcoz of these buggers. Sleep peacefully, my bare ass! I paid for that god-damned placed and some mustached bast*** tells me that i can't go in? Can't wait to get out into the free world!
My motorcycle was stolen within half an hour in the middle of the day. The parking lot had a single exit and entry and there were three of Muthanna's guards at the entry. This was 4 months ago. Since then several more motorcycles have been stolen, a car has been stolen and some cars have been looted, all belonging to doctors. I strongly suspect the staff otherwise it is not possible to carry out all this. This police patrol vehicles are not going to be of any use. They themselves say that the Manipal security is to blame for the thefts.
