Hostels made compulsory for students of MU

Manipal: Manipal University has decided to make hostels compulsory for all students studying here. A proposal has been put before the Executive Committee of Manipal University which states that the C and D MIT hostel blocks will no longer be available only to students belonging to financially weaker sections of society.

"Three new blocks will be ready by June 2009, after which 2000 additional seats will be available for boys. At the same time the 8th block which was previously for boys would now accommodate girls. Thus, there will be no need for students to move to private quarters since now hostels will be able to accommodate all the students that are admitted", said Col Kulwant Singh, Chief Warden, MIT hostels.

Notices about the decision have already been circulated so that the students don't find it inconvenient at the last moment. Many students opposed the decision saying that it in no way addresses any solutions to the living situation of the financially weaker sections of society. Arvind, a first year student at MIT said that the 9th and 10th blocks do not have the same facilities that were available in the D-block and so, as a solution, he finds it better to live in private quarters.

had talked to the chief warden, it seems that the notice was more of an advisory, as was wrongly worded, the same rules apply as last year that 2nd yr onwards u can shift out

anyone planning to shift out should talk to the chief warden about it, and if possible bring up banning food delivery as a reason

Boss,
With the rate at which the students in MIT are attempting suicides and messing around with drugs, it is a better idea to bring yourself under the supervision of the caretakers of the hostels.
