Manipal: Red-X organised Disha Carnival on Jan 30th, at the Manipal Institute of Technology’s quadrangle. It was aimed at generating funds to provide infrastructural support to schools and orphanages in Udupi apart from sponsoring children’s education.

Disha is the social wing of Red-X which aims at spreading education among students from the economically weaker sections of the society.“These schools are till seventh standard only which compels many students to discontinue education as they can’t afford education after that,” said, Adil Ahmed, Vice president of Red-X.

The carnival also witnessed performances by the musical bands of MIT namely Animus, Apocrypha, Arcane Symphony, Mezzanine and Toy.

Brig Somnath Mishra, Director, MIT joined the walkathon, which was organised on the next day. "These club activities generate a sense of responsibility among students towards the society. Different clubs in MIT aim at sharpening these budding engineers in different fields", said Brig. Mishra, showing his appreciation to the cause.

“We organise walkathons to propel our message, as we students will move out of this place after graduating but it is the local people who can make the cause successful,” said Adil, stressing the need to make the local people aware of the cause so that they support it. Throwing light over the activities supported by Disha, he also said that last year their intention was to provide water filters, while next year they will be targeting opening libraries in these schools. The members of Red-X also teach soft skills and English at these schools.
