MU staff sweat it out at sports meet1 min read

Manipal: The Manipal University (MU) Staff Athletic Meet was organised on April 17 at the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) ground by Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC). The meet was inaugurated by Varadesh Hiregange, Director of MIC and Dr. M V Kamath – Honourary Director of MIC

The first event for the day was 800m for men, which was won by Sudarshan from Manipal Servicecorp Facility Management (MSFM). He said, “I feel happy to secure the first position and I will try my best to get more prizes in other events also.” Nirmala Nayak from Manipal College of Allied Health Sciences (MCOAHS), Manipal, won a Gold medal in 1km walk in the above 45 years category, a silver medal in shot-put and a bronze medal in long jump. She said, “I am happy that every year university is organising such sports event for staff members. We get an opportunity to show our talents.”

The athletic championship for men and women was bagged by the Manipal College of Nursing (MCON). The overall championship was won by Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT). The March-Past by the staff of the institutes present was the last event of the day.

The chief guests for the prize distribution ceremony were Dr. Rajesh Baktha – Secretary of the Sports Council, MU and Dr. H S Ballal – Pro Chancellor, MU. In his address Dr. Baktha said, “All colleges together made this sports event a great success.”
