Manipal:Manipal University (MU) celebrated 65 years of India’s freedom with a parade and ceremony at the .edu Building on Aug 15, organized by Manipal School of Architecture and Planning (MSAP).
21 contingents from the colleges of Manipal University, as well as the Home Guard and the security services of Manipal took part in the parade. ASARE, an institute for the differently-abled was represented by a small contingent as well.
“Think positive, act determined and march ahead”, said the guest of honor, Dr.M.V.Kamath, Honourary Director of Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC) and a veteran journalist. He talked about the booming world of education and expressed his gratitude to the forgotten martyrs of freedom.
Students of MSAP, dressed in the colours of the flag, performed a dance, breaking the usual solemnity that marks the usually speech-heavy occasion and drawing loud applause from the staff and students gathered. Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) was awarded the prize for best marching contingent at the end of the ceremony.
“I have never experienced such a strong feeling of patriotism before I am seriously proud of being part of this event,” said Silvia Plathora, an exchange student from the Netherlands. “I feel like I am in my own country.”
