Manipal:The Manipal University Inter Collegiate Basketball Tournament 2011-12 was held on October 1-3. 19 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams participated in the tournament, organised by the Manipal College of Allied Health Sciences (MCOAHS).

The matches were held at the Kasturba Medical College (KMC) basketball ground and the court at Kamath Circle. The teams from Manipal Institute of Technology-A and KMC (Mangalore) entered the women’s finals, while the MIT-A team and KMC (Manipal) reached the men’s finals.

The final women’s match on October 3, was won by KMC (Mangalore), beating MIT-A with the score 23-13. KMC (Manipal) narrowly lost to MIT-A in the men’s finals with a score of 38-42. “The effort put in the game by all the players of the team was very good, teamwork is the main reason for our victory in this tournament” said Ashley Zachariya, a player from MIT-A.

“The number of spectators present in the finals is very disappointing,” said Narayan Prabhu, the assistant director of the physical department of MIT. “As it is an annual tournament, we expected more crowd from the finalist teams’ colleges.”

The tournament ended with a valedictory ceremony; the prizes were distributed to the winning teams by the chief guest Dr. B Rajashekhar, the dean of MCOAHS. Dr. Ramamohan Pai, the chief warden of MIT was also present on the occasion.
