Manipal: This academic year, Manipal University (MU) has introduced 27 new post-graduation (PG) courses for its students in its affiliated institutes. Degrees in M.Tech, Ph.D programmes, dual degrees and numerous diploma courses are some of the choices offered by the various institutes of the university.

Out of the 20 institutes under MU, 13 are providing new courses for PG including Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC), Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MCPH) and Manipal Life Sciences Centre (MLSC).

Out of the 27 new courses, MTech Biochemical engineering, M.Pharm in Drug Regulatory Affairs, Masters in Film Art and Film Making which is a dual degree, MA in English and B.Sc in Perfusion Technology are the courses which have the maximum number of enrolments. As of now a total of 65 students have enrolled for various courses.

“We are growing at a fast pace. Our university is doing quite well in the undergraduate level, but if we want to compete at the world level then we need to groom it overall. We have plenty of undergraduate courses but hardly any for PG, so this year we decided to implement some new courses which are very fresh and rare,” said Narayan Sabhahit, Director of Admissions, MU.

“We have introduced a dual-degree programme; MA in Film Art and Film Making, which is one of a kind. We have taken the initiative to do something new, to bring some changes in the education pattern of our institute. We have already got nine students for two PG programmes and I hope the numbers keep getting better with each passing year,” said Prof. Varadesh Hiregange, Director of MIC.
