Manipal: Manipal Institute of Jewellery Management (MIJM) has been shifted to a new location this semester. The new building is situated between the ninth and the tenth block of the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) hostels. This move was carried out due to the decision by Manipal University (MU) to have all its management institutes in close proximity to each other.

Presently, the classes for MIJM students are being conducted in the Manipal Institute of Management (MIM) campus on a temporary basis until the new building is completely equipped. The new building was inaugurated on August 15 and is expected to be ready in a week’s time.

Prof (Col.) MM Shanbhag, Director of MIJM said, “We are almost done with the shifting process. Workshops are already being held in the new building. Once the classrooms are ready, we will hold lectures in the new campus too.”

Initially, the management faced some problems as the office and classrooms were at different locations. Also, practical classes couldn’t be conducted for several weeks. “However, the shifting process is a lot smoother now and we hope that the students will like the new campus,” he added.

Riddhi Joshi, a third year student of MIJM said, “The new building is very spacious and better constructed. The only problem is that the cafeteria hasn’t been built yet. The college authorities have said that the matters would be resolved within a week. Also, the ventilation in the workshops is not adequate. But otherwise, the new building seems better.”

The classrooms in the old building will now be occupied by Manipal Centre for Natural Sciences (MCNS).
