DOC organizes workshop on accounting1 min read
Manipal: Department of Commerce (DOC), Manipal University (MU) collaborated with the Board of Studies Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to organize a one-day workshop titled ‘Accounting: An Aid for Superlative Business Development’. The event was conducted in the Seminar Hall at Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) on August 29.
The workshop, which commenced at 9 am, was organized by the student forum of DOC. The seminar had a number of resource persons who had come down from various parts of the country to conduct the seminar. They included Madhukar N. Hirengenge, Vice Chairman, Board of Studies; Nanu R Mallya, Senior Partner, Mallya & Mallya; Sridhar Kamath; Dr. Mallikajunappa; Yadav Hemmady and Supriya Ballal.
The seminar, which was divided into six sessions, covered various subjects such as Evolution of Indian Accounting Profession, Commerce and Accountancy Education, Direct Taxes Code, International Finance reporting Standards, International Capital Markets and Auditing Standards. Each topic was handled by a resource person, and was followed by a question answer round.
“Given our syllabus, it is great that we had the chance to listen to people in the industry,” said Maarid Fazili, a third year at DOC. “There is just so much you can study from the textbook, so when we get a chance to listen to professionals, it really helps. Those who conducted the seminar could really connect with the audience. That made all the difference,” he added.
The seminar was attended by various Chartered Accountants from in and around Manipal. Dr. GK Prabhu, Registrar, MU and Sandeep Shenoy, Head of DOC were also present at the event.
