Manipal: Kasturba Medical College (KMC) organised its annual intra-collegiate cultural, literary and sports festival Verve 2013 from March 10-17 at KMC Greens. With the tagline ‘One sem to rule them all’, the event witnessed active participation from the students.

This year, the fest introduced several fresh events like fashion show, group instrumental, street play, etc. which were a product of heightened enthusiasm shown by the students. “We wanted to introduce the events to engage more participation from the students and also to make the whole fest more fun,” said Devraj Pal, a third year KMC student and a member of the organising committee for cultural events.

While the introduction of new events mustered participation, Verve did not fail to portray its philanthropic side.  The fest collaborated itself with a student run NGO, The HELP to organize PAW (Pastries for Animal Welfare), a fundraiser Bake Sale for an Animal Care Trust.  Furthermore, the stall for PAW raised almost Rs 30,000 for animal shelters as part of the first day of the fest.

However, the major highlight of the fest was the fashion show which involved teams from different colleges walking the ramp on themes such as Evolution of Fashion, Ode to Women, Rebels Rock and Goth Style and Seven Deadly Sins, etc.

“Being in my final semester I am definitely going to miss the aura of Verve. This year however there were many additions to the fest. Moreover, the overall experience was enthralling,” said Kirthika Narayanan, a fourth year student at Manipal College of Allied Health Sciences (MCOAHS).

Emil J.C., a first year student from MCOAHS felt, “The fest was definitely different and fun. And the turnout was pretty big”.

Students assembled batch-wise for the marathon from the EDU building to KMC Greens after the opening ceremony. The sports events will go on till April 7.
