Manipal: “Students have become more enthusiastic, possess competitive spirit and have the drive to excel. This Utsav will be attractive, high on competition and will be crispier and tastier,” said Dr. Muralidhar V. Pai, Chairman, Cultural Coordination Committee, Manipal University (MU).

As Kasturba Medical College (KMC), celebrates its diamond jubilee this year, Utsav, MU’s annual fest will be named Diamond Utsav, 2013.

This year, Utsav will be a four day affair starting from April 11 to April 14 instead of the usual five day extravaganza. “Neither any event has been deleted nor have new events been added but we still want to finish it in four days instead of dragging for five days so as to make it more interesting. Moreover, the rules are stricter this time to make it less tiring and more enjoyable,” said Dr. Pai.

The highlight of this Utsav will be the introduction of Staff Utsav which has events exclusively for the teaching and non-teaching staff of MU’s colleges and will be held on April 10. It will have three primary competitions. Cooking and flower arrangement will both be side-stage events. In the evening , Variety Entertainment will be a main stage event wherein each college will be given a maximum of 10 minutes to showcase any sort of performance be it mad-ads, singing, dancing, etc. “It will give encouragement to the students and staff alike,” said Dr. Pai.

Diamond Utsav will witness an increase in terms of college participation. Bangalore and Dubai campuses of MU have confirmed their participation. “We are hoping Jaipur and Sikkim campuses join us but we haven’t received a confirmation yet. Same goes for TAPMI,” added Mr. Pai.

Following the Staff Utsav will be a Yakshagana show in the evening which will be performed by the faculty of MU.
