Rotaract club visits Orphanage1 min read
Manipal: The Rotaract Club of Manipal visited Christ Jyoti , an orphanage in Udupi on September 21. This was organised under its Community Contact Program, where the students visit orphanages, old age homes and specially challenged children every Sunday.
‘It is my third year with Rotaract Club and some of the people we visit have grown attached to us, which is a nice feeling,’ says Lipita Roy, a third year Mnaipal Institute of Technology student.
The volunteers went to the orphanage with biscuits, chocolate and balloons and spent two hours with the children, who live under the care of nuns. The Rotaract Club members taught the children songs, read poetry to them, danced and played with them.
Most of the children are from North Karnataka and are sent to the orphanage as their parents are unable to provide for them. Aged between 10 and 14, the 38 children attend a school attached to the church near the orphanage. Sister Melania, one of the nuns who has been with the children for the past three years said, ‘The children are quite happy here. They are given good food and are healthy.’
