Revisiting Gandhi at School of Communication1 min read
Manipal: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the various student clubs from School of Communication (SOC) collaborated together for the first time and organised an event called Gandhi Smriti from September 29 to October 1.
Although Gandhi Jayanti has been celebrated at SOC for years, this year’s collaboration between the various student clubs was a new tribute to the Father of the Nation. Nadia Narayanan, a first year student at SOC said, ‘Gandhi has always been an inspiration to me but this event has given me a deeper insight into his ideologies and principles.’
The clubs held various events based on Mahatma Gandhi and his ideologies over the three days, including an elocution organized by the literary club YELL and a street play by the theatre club Kala Manch. The design club Palette of Design (POD) also held an exhibition displaying paintings, photographs, sketches of Gandhi.
‘The purpose of the faculty was to use this event to inspire the youth to think about Gandhi, not just in the sense of history but also with reference to the ongoing struggle,’ said Dr Unnikrishnan, faculty coordinator of POD.
A reading of Gandhi’s biographies, letters and quotes was also arranged by YELL. However, there was a poor turnout for this event as well as the essay writing competition and the screening of the movie ‘The Making of Gandhi’.
