Manipal: Techtatva 2014, Manipal Institute of Technology’s (MIT) technical fest, went online this year. They organised six online events, while also using an app to keep the participants updated about results and related news.

With over 50 events and the theme of ‘integrating ideas’, the fest was held from October 8-October 12. ‘A single idea in a single entity cannot really survive. So the concept of keeping the theme integrating ideas is to bring together new ideas and new technology in infinite ways and amalgamate them to achieve any goal,’ said Aparna Sandhu, the technical secretary of the  MIT student council.

The 6 online events took place two weeks before the fest, with a huge participation. There were new external workshops on sixth sense technology, augmented reality for technophillia systems from USA, windows app development by Microsoft and comic designing workshops. Techtatva included 14 technical categories and several non-technical events like the Manipal Conclave, Just-A-Minute and scavenger hunt.

‘This year we had the largest working committee, as is evident by the tripled participation we received. Usually people need to come to NLH to check the results but this time we developed an app which gives the results, reminders and news feeds regularly. Publicity was a major focus this time, and we sold a lot of merchandise as well,’ said Vedanth Prusty, Vice President of the MIT student council.
