Human rights awareness workshop in Udupi1 min read
Udupi: Dr Ravindranath Shanbhag, an activist and President of the Human Rights Protection Foundation, Udupi conducted a workshop on the abuse of Human Rights in the society, at the Vaikunta Baliga Law College auditorium on November 2.
Speaking about the different kinds of human violations, he stressed on the plight of the senior citizens who are often mistreated by their families, and their land taken away from them. He also blamed corruption as one of the main hindrances in the propagation of public opinion, and said there was a need to educate the educated class. ‘His techniques of tackling the socio economic problems are very inspiring,’ said Mahadev MS, a student of Milagres College, Kalyanpur.
Also addressing the crowd was Dr Unnikrishnan from the pharmaceutical department, who spoke about the dangers of medical negligence and the ill effects of self-medication. Giving a brief idea about the rights of patients, he spoke about consensual treatment and how patients are often kept in the dark about their disorders or their treatment options.
In the afternoon, there was another short session where issues related to child trafficking where discussed.
