Manipal: With effect from December 15, Professor Varadesh Hiregange has stepped down as Director of School of Communication (SOC) Manipal, to be replaced by current Joint Director, Dr Nandini Lakshmikanth.

Having been at the helm of SOC for five years, Professor Varadesh has now been appointed Director of Gandhian and Peace Studies under Manipal University, Manipal. Shalom Aarons, a first year Masters student at SOC said, “He always found time for anyone who wanted a word with him and went out of his way to help students. SOC will remember him as a person who handled everything that came his way with a smile.”

Elaborating on his new role as Director of Gandhian and Peace Studies he said, “Gandhian teachings are still relevant today. We intend to carry out research, workshops, seminars and publications. The emphasis will be on Gandhian activities rather than Gandhian theory.”

Meanwhile Dr. Nandini Lakshmikanth said, “My predecessors have set a level. I intend to take it further and make SOC one of the best media colleges in the country, focusing particularly on industry and academic relations.”
