Manipal: In light of renowned cartoonist R K Laxman passing away on January 26 this year, the third year BAJC students of School of Communication (SOC), Manipal organised a tribute for him on the college premises on February 6.

“R K Laxman is such a wonderful cartoonist that his contributions to the world of journalism should not be forgotten. Hence, a tribute seemed ideal,” said Dr Nandini Lakshmikantha, Director of SOC.

The event was dedicated to showcasing his finest works. There were photos and write ups of his most famous cartoons, and a comic skit designed to depict a common man’s everyday struggles the way he saw them, was enacted by the students. ‘Malgudi Days’, which was illustrated by him, was also screened at the college as an homage to the Padma Bhushan awardee.

James Vaz, another prominent cartoonist was invited as the chief-guest for the event. “The students have done a great job and I really appreciate the pains they have taken to organise this event,” he said. He then shared some of his experiences of working with R K Laxman, with the students.
