Manipal: The Internet portal by I-On was disrupted for long hours, starting from the night of April 17 till early evening hours of April 18. I-On is the official internet portal of Manipal University.

The disruption was brought about due to an internal server failure due to which the main receiving server in Manipal was down for several long hours. This especially affected the students of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) who were writing their second sessionals of the even semester. “We need the internet for referring to various study materials given to us online. The internet not working at this vital time, is nothing short of a disaster for us,” said Rishab Dave, a first year MIT student.

It was a shutdown of internet for the entire university during a  time when students are at the brink of exams. “It is a time where we submit our assignments and the shutdown of Internet at this time affected us badly,” said Jovyn Fernandez, a student from the Department of Commerce.

Since it is not the first time I-On has shutdown, students are starting to get enraged with the service. “Despite paying for the internet services, if we do not receive connectivity when we need it the most, then it is pointless availing such a service,” said *Dipak Kumar (name changed on request), a third year student from MIT. The connection resumed only after the sessionals were over.
