Manipal: The Manipal Integrated Service (MIS) staff participated in the cross country race arranged by the Department of Physical Education in Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT). The race was held on August 15 as part of the Independence Day celebrations.

The idea of involving the MIS security guards was introduced by the members and students of the sports club. When asked about the opportunity of participation given to them, one of the MIS staff members said, “We are very happy that we were invited to participate even though we did not perform that well. If we would have been informed earlier, our preparation would have been much better. However, I am glad that we were given a chance.”

The race covered a distance of 8 kilometres, which included the Manipal Lake and the industrial area as part of the route. “One of the ideas of adding this lake as part of the competition was to show the first years that there is such a beautiful place around the campus”, said Vinod Thomas, the director of MIT.

Approximately 200 students from MIT participated in this race, with 140 boys, 23 girls and 15 representatives from MIS. Being an intra-university race, top 6 participants excluding the MIS representatives will be selected for the All India Inter-University cross-country competition. 10 boys, qualified girls and 3 winners from the MIS will be awarded for this event.
