Manipal: Interns and students from around the world were present at the Global Village event arranged by AIESEC on August 29 and 30 at the Manipal School of Communication (SOC) auditorium and Kasturba Medical College (KMC) food court.

The idea behind the event was to give AIESEC interns and Manipal University students a chance to interact and share their stories and experiences. “The theme of the event is breaking barriers, and the idea behind this was to not only give students the chance to meet the interns, but also to get to know each other,” said Ishita CP, Organizing Committee President.

The interns aren’t in Manipal only to make friends, they are here to work on a social project. They are visiting several schools in Manipal and the surrounding areas to teach the children about their culture and language. “It was a bit difficult, because in most of the schools, the children couldn’t understand anything other than Kannada, so most of the interactions were done through translators, but it was a very rewarding experience,” said Lorenia, an intern from Mexico.

To help students get better acquainted with their culture, the interns performed their country’s traditional dances while fashion group Burning Ice put up a fashion show. In addition to this, there were stalls set up where attendees could interact with interns and learn more about their homeland.
