Manipal: The Sports Council of Manipal University organized a Cross Country Race that also served as selections for the Manipal University Cross Country teams. The race was held on September 24 at the MIT athletic ground.

Female participants had to run for 6 kms whereas the male participants had to cover 10 Kilometres. The route covered MIT field, the Manipal Lake and the industrial area.

The race was flagged off at 6:30 a.m by Col. Kalakoti, the chief warden of MIT hostels. The run was facilitated by the MIT sports club, the Manipal Servicecorp Facility Management (MSFM) security personnel, staff from Alwa’s college of Physical education and the MIT Physical Education Department.

The top 9 in the men’s category and top 6 in the women’s category were selected for the University team. The selected participants will be given special coaching every morning for the Nationals.

When asked about her experience, Ganga Shinghal, the joint sports secretary of the MU sports council said, ” First of all a lot of nervousness because timings mattered plus it was early in the morning, so not that much strength. But the atmosphere was very competitive.”

The finalists will represent the University in Nationals to be held in Mangalore on October 10.
