Manipal: AIESEC in Manipal University organised Umeed 2015, a day of fun games and activities for under privileged children from Manipal and Mangalore. The event took place on October 4, at the T.M.A. Pai Park.
Children of the age group 10- 14, were encouraged to dance, sing and showcase their talents onstage. A drawing competition was also held, and there was a photo booth along with props like animal costumes for the children to play with. The children were served lunch and refreshments which was sponsored by Akshaya Patra, an NGO.
Akshata Sensharma, a third year student from Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), and the Organising Committee President said, “There were 350 children last time. Due to the clashing of the event with the children’s exam schedule, only 120 are present. Nonetheless, we wanted to give them an experience which they don’t get it elsewhere.”
The event also had performances by Blitzkrieg, a dance group from MIT. “We don’t have so much fun in school,” said Malamma, a fourth standard student from Gandhinagar School Mangalore. “I enjoyed dancing with them.”
“They have come all the way from Mangalore to do something exciting. Occasions like these are out of their routine,” explained Reajeshwari Prabhu, one of the faculty members, who accompanied the children.
