Article 19 hosts Open Mic and Dance Off for first time1 min read
Manipal: Article-19 (A-19), the annual fest of School of Communication (SOC), Manipal, held its first pre-event, ‘Spectrum’, which kicked off with an ‘Open Mic’ and ‘Dance off’, on October 20.
It was the first time the events were organised by Article 19. In ‘Open Mic’, the participants could perform anything from monologues to stand-up comedy while the succeeding event was a Dance-off. Manjeet Shetty and Vasant, the choreographers for School of Communication, were the judges for the competition. “Although there were few performers, I must say the standard is very high. Even I find it difficult to dance impromptu and these kids are doing a great job. This time, Manipal has really got some talent,” quoted Manjeet.
“The crowd was a disappointment as I expected more of a crowd than that which is currently present here,” said Vishnu Praful, first year, Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA). Alaka Padinjatil Shaji, an organiser of the event estimated that 80 people were present in the audience.
The low turnout did not discourage the participants. “This was a very good experience. Honestly, I lost a lot of competitions in my professional life and winning competitions like these are those little milestones towards success for me. Events like these give me the opportunity to better myself by meeting new people and learning something from them. Even though the crowd wasn’t too large, they were very excited nonetheless,” said Gavin Rodrigues, second year student of WGSHA, who also bagged the first prize in ‘Dance Off’
