Manipal: After a three and a half month long ‘intermission’, movie screenings officially resume at INOX Cinemas in Manipal today. The multiplex has remained shut ever since the landslide on the access road back in July.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Hindi), Akhil (Telegu), Thoongavanam (Tamil), Anarkali (Malayalam) and Vedalam (Tamil) are the movies set to be screened. No local language movies and English movies have been included as of now. The online booking portal is live again with bookings available till November 15. “The shows start at 10 A.M and the bookings for these movies start tomorrow (Friday)”, said Sridhar, an executive at the INOX Box Office.

For students in Manipal starved of easy access to movies, the news turned out to be a relief. “For a movie freak like me INOX was ‘the’ hangout place. Without it Manipal was incomplete. I was either going to Udupi or Mangalore or downloading movies for the past three months. The theatres in Udupi lack facilities and going to Mangalore is a difficult task. Cinema with good quality and availability is INOX”, said Sai Krishna, a second year student of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT).

The landslide occurred due to soil erosion after heavy rains. As per sources, the newly constructed pathway is expected to allow the smooth flow of water underneath the pavement.
