Manipal: Captain Dylan Dcunha opened the scoring with an impressive finish as Psi Vipers posted a comfortable 2-0 win over Omega Vikings in the inaugural game of the Manipal Institute of Technology Football League (MITFL), here at the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) football ground.

Dcunha marshaled the midfield, against Omega Vikings as his team found their footing in the latter stages of the first half. The game began with Vikings controlling the proceedings with impressive attacking verve.

The first fifteen minutes of the game saw the Vipers sit back and defend as the Vikings outpaced its midfield. The Vikings showed great intent with its strikers almost finding the breakthrough with a couple of brilliant chances coming their way.

The Vipers eventually came into the game as the half proceeded. “My formation as such when we were playing was a five man defense and have four midfielders. As the game progresses probably adapt and make it offensive and more attacking,” said Dcunha. The Vipers stuck to their game plan brilliantly as their midfielders started getting into the game. Dcunha struck the first goal on the 23rd minute, right before halftime.

The second half began similar to the way the previous half ended. The Vipers midfield began to impose themselves and started moving the ball around. Saatvik Sharma proved to be a valuable attacking outlet on the right. He proved to be a thorn in the Vikings defense, with his constant runs pulling its defensive organization apart. Eventually in the 43rd minute, the Vipers were rewarded for their efforts, with Akash Basu finishing aplomb after a brilliant defense splitting pass was played to him. The Vipers finished the game comfortably as the Vikings forwards were effectively blunted by the defensive organization and discipline of the Vipers.

The second game of the day saw the Alpha Knights FC win 1-0. Alpha Knights FC were in control of most phases of the game, attacking from the beginning and almost scoring immediately. Zeta Bolts FC had very few chances throughout the game.

Eventually in the 44th minute Shubham Kumar scored a simple tap-in as the Knights finally found the breakthrough it was searching for through the game.

Impressive link up play with left-winger Vipul Venupogal, whose impressive pass led to the goal.
