Annamalai transferred out of Udupi district1 min read
Udupi: Superintendent of Police (SP) Annamalai K is set to be transferred out of Udupi to Chikkamagaluru district with immediate effect.
This is the second time Annamalai has been transferred in as many years. Annamalai took over as SP of Udupi on January 1, 2015. Prior to taking over as SP of Udupi district, he served as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Karkala division. Known to be a disciplinarian, he famously enforced strict rules especially in the student populated town of Manipal.
During his tenure, wearing helmets was made compulsory and subsequently monitored by police, for all students studying in Manipal and Udupi. Suraksha police – an android and iOS application was developed to directly contact the police, among a string of initiatives proactively set up and implemented under his leadership of the Udupi police force.
Annamalai was closely associated with Manipal University. He frequently attended events held in the Manipal University campuses and often engaged in open interaction with the students. He will now be replaced by K T Balakrishna, an IPS officer of 2006 batch.
