Manipal University marks Independence day with vibrant celebration1 min read
Manipal: Manipal University (MU) marked the 70th Indian Independence Day with a colourful celebration at the Manipal.edu building on the morning of August 15. The event was hosted by School of Management (SOM), Manipal.
The ceremony commenced with a welcome speech by Dr. Raveendranath Nayak, Director of SOM. This was followed by the general salute by the 21 contingents of MU. Chief Guest and Honorable Chancellor, MU, Dr. Ramdas M. Pai unfurled and hoisted the national flag. He received a salute from each of the contingents after which the march-past was performed with great enthusiasm.
Dr. Surendra Shetty, Pro Vice Chancellor, delivered a speech on democracy, the duties of citizens of a democratic republic and the growth trajectory of the nation since independence. He laid particular emphasis on the importance of good quality higher education and the need for personality development to achieve total empowerment of the youth. “On this Independence Day, let us pledge to contribute to the progress of our nation and remember to stay true to the ideals of our founding fathers and leaders,” said Dr. Shetty.
After the speech, participatory awards were handed out to the contingents by Dr. Pai. The prize distribution ceremony followed with Dr. Pai, conferring team leaders with ‘The Best Contingent Award’. Manipal School of Nursing, School of Management (SOM), and Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively.
The ceremony ended with Dr. Pai granting permission to the Chief Commander, to break the parade.
