Manipal: Students will now be allowed to freely enter the campus at the Kamath Circle gate till 10:50 pm. The notification comes a few days after permission time for senior girls residing in Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) hostels was extended to 11 pm.

Speaking to The Manipal Journal, MIT Director GK Prabhu confirmed that the permission time for free entry inside KC gate would be made equal for both boys and girls. “Although the hostel permission time had been made equal for both boys and girls, the time to enter the campus was a half-hour earlier for girls. However we are planning to revise the timings and make it equal both irrespective of gender,” he said. Following this, a notice was circulated in girls’ hostel blocks on September 2 confirming that the latest time for free entry into the campus was 10:50 pm for both boys and girls.

Previously, girls had to enter the campus by 10:30 pm. The move to extend the entry timing at KC gate by 20 minutes was welcomed by senior girls residing in MIT hostels as it made the rules within the campus equal for both boys and girls.”People don’t have to rush back to hostels now. That makes it a little more comfortable but the important part is that the rules have now been made equal for both boys and girls”, said Divyani Patel, a second year student of Department of Commerce (DOC).

The notice also added that any student entering campus after 11 pm will have to produce their identity card. MIT Director GK Prabhu urged students to comply with the rules. “There have been instances where we have let the student enter and they have run away without submitting their ID cards,” he added.
