Central Perk recreated at WGSHA food fest2 min read

Manipal: Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA) organised its first food fest of the year, ‘Central Perk’, based on the hit television series ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S’ at the Fortune Inn Valley View hotel on September 17 and 18.

Posters and collages prepared by students along with a replica of Phoebe’s guitar and cycle were put on display to create a Central Perk ambience. In addition to this, favourite episodes were also screened simultaneously as people dined on the food, based on the show. “The students are in charge of planning the event and picking a theme for the food fest. Since, we are all great fans of the show, we thought we should pick it as our theme,” said Nikita Neethi, a third year student of WGSHA, who was the kitchen head.

The chefs worked over the two days, channelling Monica’s passion for cooking, to provide FRIENDS fans with an opportunity to share Joey’s love for food. “It’s a tradition here at WGSHA. This is how we learn how to run everything – the restaurants and kitchens. It provides you with a lot of opportunities and allows you to gain experience,” said Avinash Sadarangani, a third year student of WGSHA, who has previously worked on six other food fests.

The five-course meal included specially curated dishes like Ross’s “I’m Fine” Margaritas Monica’s Mockolate Milkshake, Phoebe’s Veggie Tournedos, Joey’s Fruit Lasagna, Chandler and Rachel’s Messy Cheesecake as well as Ross’s Breakdown Fajitas.

The event was attended by over 200 diners, with dinner served on the first day and brunch the next day. “I was very nostalgic. It felt great to watch FRIENDS and eat food that was prepared based on the show. It was a great overall experience,” said Deeksha, a second year student of Department of Commerce (DOC).
