Manipal: Volunteer Services Organisation’s (VSO) Daan Utsav started off with ‘Splash and Dash’ – a unique fundraising car wash event, organised by Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) at Tiger Circle, aimed at helping underprivileged automobile drivers.

Around 16 members of VSO from various colleges washed two, three and four wheelers at the petrol bunk in Tiger Circle prior to which cars were also washed at the Health Science Campus. VSO coordinator at the Health Science Campus, Isheta Sarkar, elaborated, “Daan Utsav is about selfless service and even though VSO does it all throughout the year, it is important to designate a week for this.”

Amounting to a total of Rs. 16,000, two wheelers were charged Rs. 100 while four wheelers were charged Rs. 300. The amount was used for purchasing and providing 600 PET bottles to underprivileged drivers, after considering the quality of bottles they used for drinking water on a daily basis.

Mr. Santosh, one of the customers, remarked, “This is a wonderful initiative and I am happy that my funds are going to help underprivileged people.”
