Daan Rath parades around Manipal University as VSO celebrates Daan Utsav2 min read

Manipal: Volunteer Services Organisation (VSO) unveiled the the Daan Rath at the edu building marking the start of Daan Utsav, a week-long celebration of the Joy of Giving Week.

Daan Rath, one of the four projects by the DOC (Department of Commerce) for Daan Utsav, is going to different colleges under Manipal University encouraging donations during Daan Utsav. Anuja Joling, student of DOC and event coordinator said, “The Rath was created to improve publicity and create awareness about Daan Utsav.”After the inauguration, the Daan Rath was driven to the Interact Hall with the volunteers closely behind.

The reveal was followed by the installation of the Daan Utsav 3D art at the Interact Hall. At the Interact Hall, the inauguration of the 3D Art was done by the Sandeep Shenoy, Head of DOC. The art was painted by a professional painter hired by VSO (Volunteer Services Organisation). According to the volunteers, the inauguration was done at KMC since they wanted more publicity.

With the motive of spreading joy, Daan Utsav introduced Rangat for the first time ever. With the intention of bringing in an element of festivity to the evening. The events included slam poetry, based on a variety of themes. The first theme was based on love, the second poem was numb, which spoke about how a person deals with life and the third theme was numbers, which spoke about how a women feels about numbers attached to her.Apart from the slam poetry, by Kalamanch (dramatics club of School of Communication) organised a street play based on several social issues.

With over 35 events scheduled, Daan Utsav 2016 is set to be VSO – MU’s biggest celebration of the Joy of Giving Week.
