Manipal: As part of the Atharva fest, a marathon was organized by students of T.A Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) for the cause of child education at KMC Greens on January 14. The funds raised in this marathon were donated to Academy Primary School to fund educational and infrastructural facilities.
Around 250 residents of the town, aged 14 years and above participated in the 4.4km marathon which lasted for about 25 minutes. Sarath and Sahaana Arun won the first position and Vishnu and Ankita Singh won the runners up in the male and female category respectively. Amongst the TAPMI runners, Vignesh K bagged the first place. The winners were handed a cash prize of Rs 5000 and runners up won a cash prize of Rs 3000 along with many other coupons.
“I believe marathon lifestyle is a healthy one.Finishing a marathon is not just an athletic achievement rather a life time experience. It has heroism. Every jogger can’t dream of being an Olympic champion, but he can dream of finishing a marathon. I want to promote Fitness in this Tech Savvy World, bring more women participation into this field. I would do my part to bring the change in the society”, said Sahaana Arun, a student from MIT and winner of TAPMI marathon.
Although not many people participated in the event, around 2,200 people bought tickets to support their cause. Academy Primary School has 82 under privileged students studying in the school. “Our ticket was 50 bucks. We sold around 2,200 tickets and we had a lot of corporate industry experts coming in apart from the student crowd in Manipal. We are raising funds to provide the under privileged students with proper amenities, proper hygiene facilities, bathrooms, infrastructure, playgrounds etc”, said Jhanshi, one of the organizers of the marathon.
