Manipal Club Owner Hacked to Death in Broad Daylight1 min read
Manipal: In a shocking incident, a 46-year-old man was brutally stabbed by four people near the 7th Heaven building in Manipal on Sunday, July 29. The man was identified as Guruprasad Bhat, who was running a Recreation Club at Perampalli.
It is believed that around 12:30 pm, four individuals came in a Maruti Omni with machetes and other weapons to fatally stab the man multiple times, before escaping from the crime scene. Guruprasad was seriously injured by the attack and was rushed to the Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal where he was declared dead. Later in the day, Manipal police arrested three people – Sujith Pinto, Pradeep Poojary and Rajesh – who they suspect have murdered Bhat, near Kunluru Bridge in Kundapur while the fourth miscreant is still at large.
The Club was shut down for the day as Manipal police rushed to the spot and investigated the crime scene, and the area surrounding it was deserted by nightfall. The Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi too visited the spot near the Country Inn Hotel at End Point.
While the motive of the murder is still yet to be proven, Guruprasad, who was the cousin of Raghupathy Bhat, the MLA for Udupi, was involved in a finance business a few years ago, which the Police suspect could be the possible reason for the murder. “We cannot disclose any further details or reports of the evidence till the case is solved. We are investigating the matter,” said a police officer at the Manipal police station.
