Tourist bus accident at Karkala: 9 dead, 30 injured1 min read
KARKALA: A tourist bus coming from Mysore to Mangaluru, met with a major accident on the late evening of February 15 at Karkala taluk of Udupi district, killing nine and leaving 30 injured.
Over a telephone conversation with The Manipal Journal, the Additional Superintendent of Police of Udupi confirmed that the passengers are employees and workers from a data entry firm of Mysore called Century Vital Records. The bus had left for Mangaluru from Mysuru on the night of February 14. There were 35 employees of the company and four workers on the bus.
Udupi Superintendent of Police (SP), N Vishnuvardhan, confirmed the death of nine people in the accident. Seven died in the collision and two died on their way to the hospital. It has been said that the accident took place because the driver could not navigate a curve on the way.
13 injured passengers are in Karkala City Hospital and seven are in the Karkala Government Hospital. Due to more serious injuries than the others, 10 victims were sent to Kasturba Medical College (KMC) hospital, Manipal. The Additional SP of Udupi later confirmed that the victims admitted in the hospitals are now out of danger.
